A quad complaint is the likely cause of a flare up of Matthew Pavlich’s Achilles that will see him miss Sunday’s game, says senior coach Ross Lyon.
Pavlich will miss the round 21 showdown with North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium due to soreness in the tendon.
The captain revealed following Sunday’s Carlton Draught Derby that he only made the call to play 12-hours earlier.
Talking Points ahead of North Melbourne
Lyon said Pavlich was a late test for the round 19 clash with St Kilda at Etihad Stadium two weeks ago due to quad soreness.
Pavlich played but overcompensating for his quad may have triggered his Achilles soreness, Lyon said.
“He did get sore (after the St Kilda game),” he said.
“He had a fitness test at Junction Oval at 12pm on that (game) day.

“He had a minor quad issue on his non-kicking leg and probably tended to overload it…and it’s flared up.
“He got up last week, he pulled up pretty sore but we just can’t play him.”
Lyon said he was not particularly confident Pavlich would be available to play Melbourne at Domain Stadium next Sunday.
“I’m not particularly confident but hopeful,” he said.
