Making the most of opportunities inside-50 is the focus for Fremantle after its 24-point Carlton Draught Derby loss to West Coast, says Garrick Ibbotson.

Fremantle won the inside-50 count 50 to 42 but kicked just 11 goals to West Coast’s 15.

“There is a lot to learn from a loss,” he said.

“We spoke a little bit about our stoppage structure and attacking and defensive things.”

“And how we didn’t score as much as we would’ve liked.

“We had some opportunities inside-50 but we didn’t convert.

“On the flipside, West Coast were really strong on that, especially in the first quarter when they got the jump on us.”

Ibbotson said it was a reversal of Fremantle’s fast start in the derby earlier this season when Fremantle booted nine first-term goals.
