Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon says the club is excited to play in front of a vocal home crowd in Sunday’s Carlton Draught Derby.

The mouth-watering clash at Domain Stadium is the 42nd derby and gives Fremantle a chance to square the ledger at 21 wins each.

Lyon said it was a big week for WA footy fans.

Derby history looms

“We’re rapt it’s our home derby and there will be a lot of purple roaring,” he said.

“It’ll generate a lot of excitement and we’ll really enjoy that.

“For the fans and members we want to go out and be a competitive beast.”

However, Lyon said it was business as usual at the club in its search for another four points.

Lyon said it was a significant achievement to have both WA clubs in the top two on the AFL ladder.

Time and space a challenge against West Coast

“We were written off (at the start of the season) to be on the slide and many pundits had West Coast, not making the eight,” he said.

“Both teams have written their own stories and overcome significant challenges.

“It’s not insignificant with four games to go, what both clubs have been able to do, that’s a good story for WA footy in itself.”

Fremantle play West Coast at Domain Stadium on Sunday 16 August. Bounce down is at 2.40pm
