Fremantle defender Garrick Ibbotson says the club has a number of players who could replace injured All Australian forward Hayden Ballantyne.

Ballantyne is set to miss the rest of the home and away season after tearing his pectoral tendon in Saturday’s win over Carlton.

Ibbotson said Ballantyne was a key player but a number of players had put their hand up in recent weeks to replace him.

“He’s a hard one to replace, he gives great effort each week,” he said.

“He’s a great guy to have in your side, I’m sure everyone else would agree.

“We’ve got some good guys playing footy at the moment.

“Hayden will be tough to replace but lucky it’s not my decision.

“Who replaces him? I’m not sure, but I’m confident whoever does will do a good job.”

Among those is Hayden Crozier, who was subbed into the side at half time in place of Ballantyne.

Senior coach Ross Lyon has hinted that Crozier is a likely replacement for Ballantyne to play Richmond on Saturday, which would still open the door for another player to make the 22.

Among those in the mix are potential debutants Lachie Weller and Ed Langdon, who have impressed for Peel Thunder.

“They are both playing really well for Peel in the WAFL,” Ibbotson said.

“Both are really quick and exciting to watch, if they were to get a game that’d be good for them.

“They do play forward a little bit…they’d have something different to offer.

“Their enthusiasm would get the side up and about.”

Fremantle play Richmond at the MCG on Saturday 25 July. Bounce down is at 4.35pm.
