Fremantle sports science manager Jason Weber says Hayden Ballantyne’s torn tendon was the result of one of his trademark tackles.
Ballantyne is facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines and is expected to miss the remainder of the home and away season after suffering a pectoral injury in Saturday’s win over Carlton.
“He was trying to take a player to ground, a player a bit bigger than he, and the force of that tore the tendon that connects his chest to his arm,” he said.
“That has had to be surgically repaired.”
Weber said Michael Johnson (hamstring) was on track to make a return to the field in two to four weeks.
Hayden Ballantyne injury update
“He is progressing really well,” he said.
“We’ve had some testing in the past weeks to make sure he’s on track and that’s been the case.”
Weber said Alex Silvagni (hamstring) and Zac Dawson (thumb) both returned successfully through the WAFL ranks on the weekend.
“They both got through the work we were after which was pretty much a full game,” he said.
