Fremantle forward Hayden Ballantyne says the team’s ball movement needs to be quicker to help it find the form it displayed in the early part of the season.
The 2014 All Australian believes it will help Freo get back to its brilliant best.
“I think a bit more quicker ball movement will help myself and the other forwards as well to get a bigger score on the board and go towards us winning games by bigger margins hopefully,” he told Nine News on Tuesday.
“I’m sure we’ll rectify it very soon and be back to some great form, I can’t wait for it.”
Freo ready to bounce back
Fremantle was disappointing against back-to-back reigning premiers Hawthorn, losing by 72 points at Aurora Stadium.
Ballantyne described the game as “a tough day at the office” but was quick to point out the positives.
“We went down there with the best intentions to give everything we had and it just didn’t happen for us on the day,” he said.
“It was very disappointing to lose the way we did, but in reality we’re still a game clear on top of the ladder.”
By his own admission, Ballantyne said he wasn’t in the best form around goal, but was willing to play in the centre after coach Ross Lyon flagged it earlier this week.
“I obviously haven’t set the world on fire with my goal kicking and stuff like that but like you said it’s not through lack of effort, I’m still giving everything I’ve got,” he said.
“I’d love to have a crack in the midfield, big Aaron (Sandilands) is the most dominant ruckman in the competition, so getting a few crumbs off him in the midfield would be great.
“I’m happy to play whatever role Ross has for me and I’ll do that to the best of my ability, whether that’s forward or in the midfield.
“I’m easy, as long as I’m out there playing, I’ll give it everything I’ve got.”
Fremantle play Carlton at Domain Stadium on Saturday 18 July. Bounce down is at 5.40pm.
