Hawthorn’s forward line is still “scary” despite missing Coleman Medallist Jarryd Roughead, according to Fremantle defender Luke McPharlin.
Roughhead had surgery to remove a melanoma from his bottom lip last week and is sidelined pending further test results.
McPharlin said even without the three-time premiership player, Hawthorn’s forward line is a dangerous prospect.
“The scary thing about Hawthorn is they have so many avenues to goal,” he said.
“Their smalls are more than capable and Jack Gunston is a class player.”
McPharlin said Fremantle had not yet planned defensive match-ups but he was likely spend time on a number of the Hawks’ forwards.
“These days defenders find themselves rolling over opponents,” he said.
Sunday’s match is highly anticipated by fans and will be a serious test of Fremantle, according to McPharlin.
“When you come up against any top side you really want to demonstrate where you are at as a football team,” he said.
“This is an enormous challenge for us.
“We’re looking forward to getting over there.
“They’re coming, they’re in really good form.
“It’s going to be a top of the table clash and probably the game of the round.
“We know if we bring our best effort and everyone sticks to their role we’ll certainly have a good look at it.”
Fremantle play Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium on Sunday 12 July. Bounce down is at 3.20pm local time.
