Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon says his players are ‘back on the treadmill’ and ready to fire up for the second half of the season after two well-earned breaks.

Freo enjoyed a 12-day break between the round 11 match against Gold Coast and last Thursday’s match against Collingwood and it will be another 10-day break before Sunday’s encounter with Brisbane at Domain Stadium.

Lyon says the break has had some advantages for his team, which sits on top of the AFL ladder.

“We haven’t flown in a while, we get some continuity in our training,” he said.

“We came off the bye okay, we got a win…so we’re working hard on our footy.

“They’re (the players) really quite vibrant, all our markers tell us that they’re feeling good about themselves physically and mentally.

“We’re back on the treadmill now and training hard, trying to improve our football first and foremost, and having a good look at Brisbane.”

Lyon said training had been a little bit more physical this week with Wednesday’s session focusing on inside-50 entry and ball movement.

The forward line mix has been a hot topic, but Lyon said it is a work in progress.

“I don’t think perfection exists, but we’re certainly trying to get it right and we had it right for a fair period of the year really, didn’t we?

“We acknowledge we’ve slipped, we need to improve.

“It’s really good that we’re not playing our best footy, but we’re still winning and beating some pretty good teams.

“That’s the positive I would take out of it.”

Fremantle play Brisbane at Domain Stadium on Sunday 5 July. Bounce down is at 2.40pm.
