Fremantle will focus on improving its inside-50 conversion rate ahead of Thursday night’s blockbuster against Collingwood.
The side is averaging 51.6 inside-50s per game this season but senior coach Ross Lyon said the team had struggled in recent weeks to convert those opportunities into goals.
“Conversion is a much underrated statistic,” he said.
“We are getting it inside 50 well…our forwards are winning their one-on-ones.
“It’s the connection, the last kick and the finish (that is a problem).”
Lyon said the forwards and midfielders would work on their structures on the track this week.
“A lot of work is going into our front, the blocking and leading, that’s been the area that has been down,” he said.
“They’ve been getting plenty of opportunities but the connect between the midfielders and forwards hasn’t been at the high level we demand and require, that’s been the focus.”
Forwards Matthew Pavlich (21 goals), Michael Walters (18), Chris Mayne (13) and Matt Taberner (11) have been consistent in front of goal.
While midfielders Nat Fyfe (13) and Lachie Neale (9) have also hit the scoreboard.
Lyon said the number of goals kicked by midfielders was down compared to the start of the year.
“That’s probably dried up a bit,” he said.
