He may be the most talked about player in the AFL but the team is the number one focus for Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe.
The star midfielder will line to play his 100th game against North Melbourne on Saturday and has been the talk of the football world after a dominant first seven games.
But the 23-year-old said team success is his constant focus.
“Individually I’ve achieved a few things but falling short as a team in 2013 still stings,” he said.
“There is a lot I want to achieve as part of a collective at this footy club and I’m really excited to see what the next 100 will be like.”
A look back at Fyfe's first game for Freo
Fyfe paid tribute to his teammates, who he said without them, he would not be the player he is today.
“I’ve been fortunate to play with some great players,” he said.
“You can only really be a good stoppage player, if you’ve got a good group around you and that’s what we’ve got at the moment.”
Fyfe said Freo’s midfield unit was moving into its prime.
“(We’re) a group that’s played 50 to 70 games together with David Mundy, Stephen Hill, Danyle Pearce and Michael Barlow,” he said.
“We know each others games pretty well now and as a group we are getting success on the field.
“We’re obviously spoilt with the first use from Aaron (Sandilands).”
The two-time Doig Medallist is among Brownlow Medal favourites but he said that was a distraction more than anything else.
“It’s somewhat of a distracting side plot to the fact we’re seven and zero,” he said.
“It is disappointing sometimes that it takes away from what we’re achieving as a group.”
