Talented forward Hayden Ballantyne says he will continue to play on instinct despite his two-game suspension earlier this year.
Ballantyne missed two games after he was suspended for a high-bump on Geelong’s Harry Taylor in Round 2.
He is no stranger to suspensions, having served a number in his career.
Ballantyne said he would not change the way he plays because it is what has led to his success in the AFL.
“My best football is when I play on instinct,” he said.
“If I worry too much about anything else that is going on, I could end up being hurt or end up being dropped because I’m not hard enough.”
Ballantyne had the support of his teammates and senior coach Ross Lyon when he was brought straight back into the side following his suspension.
His immediate inclusion was canvassed with the playing group.
“I’m grateful to the team,” Ballantyne said.
“Everyone got to say what they wanted to say, there was a lot of support."
Ballantyne said the competition for spots was part of Freo’s undefeated streak to start the year.
“No one spot’s safe, that’s the beauty of the team, everyone is playing well and Peel’s playing well,” he said.
