Chris Mayne’s dominant 12 tackles against Melbourne was one of the key factors in Fremantle impressive second half.
Mayne’s pressure and four goals were instrumental in the 68-point win at the MCG on Sunday, according to defender Luke McPharlin.
“To have 12 tackles as a forward is an incredible stat," he said.
“It went an incredibly long way for us in winning the game."
Gutsy win over Melbourne: McPharlin
McPharlin said the second half dominance was pleasing, after losing Matthew Pavlich and Michael Walters to concussions in the first half.
He said the pressure across the ground, made the job easier for the defenders.
“It takes a team approach,” he said.
“Overall, given the dominance of our midfield in the second half, it made our job a lot easier.
“What the forwards are doing down there, in terms of pressure they’re putting on the ball, allows the defence to setup behind the play and really feeds into all our structures very nicely.”
