Some AFL-experienced Freo players helped Peel Thunder deliver a 55-point win over East Fremantle at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday.
Tendai Mzungu missed out on Freo’s senior side but was impressive in his debut for Peel with 25 disposals.
“The boys were really welcoming towards myself,” Mzungu said.
“We really fought it out over four quarters.
“It was pleasing to see the hardness and the areas we were focusing on.
“I thought it was a real all-round effort.”
After leading the Sharks by a goal at quarter time, Peel blasted the game open with a six goal to none second quarter.
“We just wanted to be a bit harder inside and win some clearances,” the 29-year-old said.
“And give our forwards a chance because they looked really dangerous all day.”
Matt Taberner and Hayden Crozier both performed well up forward; Taberner was the stand out with 14 disposals and four goals.
Lachie Weller turned heads after a five-bounce run from half back through the middle of the ground to kick a goal.
The first-year recruit was solid in his second game for Peel with 22 disposals and three goals.
