As part of the club’s 20-year recognition game this Sunday against Greater Western Sydney at Patersons Stadium, several past players and their children will take part in a friendly AFL 9’s game before the main game.

The fun kicks off at 12.10pm, and fans wanting to catch all the pre-game action can enter through Patersons Stadium gates 8 and 26 from 12pm.

One past player to be pulling the boots back on this Sunday is Garth Taylor.

The Indigenous forward was one of the smallest players to ever line up in the AFL at just 166cm.

He made his debut in a Derby in round 1, 1999.

fremantlefc.com.au caught with up Taylor to see how his preparations were going leading into his return to footy.

Have you been doing anything in particular to prepare for the game?
I’m playing, am I? I’m not in great shape, but I’ve still got a little bit.

Who are you most looking forward to lining up against?
Maybe ‘Kicketty’ (Dale Kickett).

Who do you think is most likely to pull their hamstring?
If ‘Browney’ (Andrew Browne) is out there he’ll be one of the first blokes to pull up sore.

What’s your favourite memory from your playing days at Freo?
My first game. It was a Derby, and I used to be an Eagles fan, so getting to play for Freo against my old team was really good.

Which current Freo players do you like watching?
Nat Fyfe. I love watching ‘Fyfey’ play. His athleticism and the way he goes about his football is great to watch. The other one is ‘Son Son’. I don’t mind watching young Micky Walters.

What are your thoughts on the current Freo team?
I love watching the games. Me and my girls sit down and watch them play whenever we can. It’s great to see the club is starting to get into a situation where we’ve got a winning culture compared to when I was down there, we lost a fair few games.
