It was one of the great moments of Fremantle’s season so far – when Stephen Hill took possession of the football at the interchange gate and began a scintillating five-bounce dash down Simonds Stadium that would result in a match-securing goal.

The man of the moment said he just happened to enter the action at the perfect time.

“I snuck on and it fell in my hands pretty much,” Hill said.

“I saw a bit of space and I just took it. I just put my head down and took off.

“No one came at me so I just kept running and got inside 50.”

With one classy kick, the 23-year-old crushed the hearts of Geelong players and supporters.

“I was just relieved that it went through,” Hill said.

“I was pretty knackered after the run.”

Hill said it was difficult to put into words just how elated he and his teammates were to come away with the win at a ground the Cats had made a fortress.

“It was a great effort by the boys, I can’t describe it, it was amazing,” he said.

“To be able to beat Geelong down here, they’re a great side, and to have a week off and get ready for the prelim is pretty exciting.”

Fremantle will play either Sydney or Carlton at Patersons Stadium in a fortnight for the right to play in the Grand Final.
