Fremantle midfielder Anthony Morabito is to undergo a second reconstruction on his injured left knee.

The 20-year-old, who was on the comeback trail after playing for Peel in the WAFL, had similar surgery on his left knee in December 2010 after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.

He injured the same knee at training last Friday and flew to Melbourne earlier this week to consult a specialist.

General manager of football operations Chris Bond said that after visiting the specialist today the medical advice was that Morabito undergo a second knee reconstruction after damaging his ACL.

“It is bitterly disappointing for Anthony, his family, the club and our members and supporters,” Bond said.

“However, we see Anthony as having a long-term future with the club and remain confident that, with the appropriate recovery and rehabilitation program, he will return to senior football next year.”

Bond said that Morabito was due to undergo surgery tomorrow.
