Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir has hinted at Heath Chapman's return for the Len Hall Tribute Game against the Bulldogs after the defender's standout performance for Peel Thunder over the weekend.

Chapman played his first full match minutes for Peel in their 123 – 55 victory over the Eagles in Saturdays RAC Derby curtain raiser, with Chapman being a standout performer gathering 26 disposals, eight marks and a goal.

“Chappy (Heath Chapman) has made himself available after missing for eight weeks,” Longmuir said to the media Wednesday morning.

“He brings a great energy to the game in all aspects.

“The exciting thing I’ve seen from him at Peel is from the moment he stepped back from injury on limited minutes is that he’s played above the level.”

Chapman suffered a moderate-grade hamstring strain in the Club’s intraclub match in February, resulting in the 22-year-old traveling to Qatar with Club physiotherapist James Grierson for rehabilitation.

Chapman's luckless run with injury has restricted the defender to only 26 AFL games since being drafted with pick 14 in the 2020 National Draft, including only three games in 2023.

“It’s been awhile since we’ve had him out in the AFL team, but we hope his injuries are behind him and he can get a really good run at it now,” Longmuir said.

“He’s got the ability to win the ball back, which is something we need to do a lot more and a lot better, and he gives us a lot on offence in terms of being able to turn defence into offence.

“Hitting kicks really quickly and driving from contest."

Longmuir later confirmed the Club would look to find the “best mix” ahead of team selection later in the week.

“We’ve been a really consistent side for the first five weeks. Last week was disappointing but we’ve been a really consistent side and the players have been playing their roles really well for the team,” Longmuir said.

“We want to try and find our best mix and both Freddy (Michael Frederick) and Switta (Sam Switkowski) in particular really help our forward line function.

“It’s a good problem to have when you have got a lot of players who are putting their hand up.

“Whether we go three talls or not we haven’t quite decided that yet, but one of those guys (Pat Voss or Matt Taberner) is a chance to replace Jye (Amiss).”

Fremantle and the Bulldogs will bouncedown at Optus Stadium at 5.40pm WST, with a spot in the eight on the line for the 3-3 Clubs.
