Fremantle forward Michael Frederick is feeling the best he has ever felt following his first official hitout against the Indigenous All Stars on Saturday night.
Frederick credits the support staff for having one of his most consistent pre-seasons after kicking three goals in the 43-point loss in the exhibition match.
“I’m feeling good. This pre-season has probably been the first one in the last few years where I’ve been able to train in all sessions and get a bit of continuity with my body,” Frederick said.
“It’s probably the best I’ve felt, to be honest. The strength and conditioning guys, the physio staff, and all the coaches have been unreal this pre-season.”
Reflecting on the game Frederick said one of the standout moments from the night was watching Club legend Michael Walters lead the Indigenous All Stars side, a team of which many would have idolised Walters over the years.
“It was awesome watching Walters. I didn’t think he would come up to me in warmup, but he did. It was good to see him running around.

“He was moving alright out there, and it was good to see him get on the scoreboard and enjoy it with a lot of his good mates who he’s played footy with before.
“I’m sure a lot of the guys in the All Stars team would have idolised him as kids, and for them to run out with Sonny would have been unreal.”
Although the Indigenous All Stars were too good on Saturday for Fremantle, Michael Frederick said today’s match was about more than just football, recognising how he and his teammates will look back on the match with great fondness.

“It was a good test for us to see where we were at as a team and how we could match up against a skilful team. It wasn’t the result we were after, but it was a good challenge,” Frederick said.
“There was a massive buzz at the Club throughout the week, even at captain’s run yesterday, and rocking up today knowing there was going to be a big crowd… it was awesome to be part of.
“Rodger Hayden spoke about the history of the game from where it started, and a couple of other guys at the Club talked about how much it should mean and how privileged we should feel to be part of one of many teams to play against the All Stars over the years.
“I know a lot of guys will look back for years to come and really appreciate the day for what it was.”
Fremantle will now play an intraclub game on Sunday 23 February, before traveling to Mandurah to play Melbourne in the Club’s one and only AAMI Community Series game.
