Senior Coach Mark Harvey has rewarded Hayden Ballantyne with an AFL debut after a standout performance in the WAFL for Peel Thunder last weekend.

The 2008 Sandover Medallist will play in Saturday night's clash with Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

A livewire forward, Ballantyne booted five goals for Peel Thunder in his return to football, well and truly putting an extensive injury lay-off behind him.

The 21-year-old had been sidelined due to wrist surgery since he was drafted with pick No.21 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft and has overcome a cork injury to make his debut this week.

Ballantyne will be Fremantle's seventh debutant this season, following the announcement on Wednesday that Clancee Pearce would also be making his debut against Port Adelaide and the introductions of Stephen Hill, Nic Suban, Greg Broughton, Matt de Boer and Luke Pratt to AFL football.
