Fremantle captain Nathan Fyfe will be rested from Fremantle’s practice match against West Coast on Sunday, which is in the process of being relocated from Subiaco Oval.

Both clubs were concerned about the surface and are in the process of having the game relocated to Lathlain Park.

While the game will be closed to the public, members and supporters will be able to watch a live stream of the game at fremantlefc.com.au from 10am on Sunday.

The WA Football Commission said in a statement on Friday that the decision to move the game was made after a ground condition report and assessment of the Subiaco Oval playing surface earlier today.

“An increase in pre-season training activity at the ground from male and female State academies and umpires has resulted in additional wear on the playing surface and areas of inconsistency,” The WAFC said in a statement.

“Due to these inconsistencies (in the playing surface) the decision has been made by all parties to shift the game in the best interests of player safety.

“The WAFC is undertaking ground maintenance work at Subiaco Oval to ensure the inconsistencies in the playing surface are rectified as soon as possible.”

Fremantle general manager of football operations Chris Bond said Fyfe would be rested from Sunday’s practice match to assist with the management of his training load.

“While Nat will play in our second JLT series game next weekend, we believe the break from playing this weekend will help with the management of his training load,” Bond said.

“Nat has had a very strong pre-season, which included playing in the International Rules Series, and played in our first JLT series game last weekend.”
