All 29 matches of this year's NAB AFL Women's competition will be streamed live on a new AFLW app launched on Wednesday.
The AFLW Official App, a collaboration between Telstra and the AFL, includes the latest news and feature stories, player profiles, exclusive video content, guides to the code and the rules, and information on how to get to matches.
Streaming matches – including the AFLW Grand Final – will be data-free for Telstra customers.
"In partnership with the AFL we are committed to growing the AFL's elite women's competition and as part of that commitment, making the live games available to as many fans as possible, and building a new sports streaming audience is key," Telstra's group executive media and chief marketing officer Joe Pollard said.
The AFLW Official App will help fans better connect to the game.
"The AFLW Official App is about the new fan experience. The app is designed to bring AFLW fans closer to the players and their journeys, help fans plan their visit to the grounds, and guide them through the rules of the game and the on-field action," the AFL's general manager growth, digital and audiences Darren Birch said.
"The app also allows us to extend the AFLW story beyond the eight-week competition with unique player content and news throughout the year ahead."
Last year, some 2.6 million minutes of the AFLW competition were streamed through the AFL Live app in the opening round.
"The outstanding success of the AFLW's opening matches in 2017 showed just how vital it was for the League to offer a connected, always-on fan experience, especially ahead of the expansion to a 14-team AFLW competition in 2020," Birch said.
"The app will be the ultimate way to stay connected to the women's game with a simple glance, whether you're at the game or not."
The AFLW Official App is available for download through the App store and Google Play store. Search for 'AFLW Official'.
